Dow Chemical Thailand is conducting a feasibility study to expand capacity of its chemical plant in Thailand, seeking to serve growing demand for its chemical products by industry in the region. The company expects the study be completed by 2021, followed by an expansion project and investment budget.

On 13 March 2020, Messe Düsseldorf announced that it is postponing the leading international trade fair interpack. It will now take place from 25 February to 3 March 2021. Furthermore, Messe Düsseldorf announced that the drupa trade fair scheduled for 16 – 26 June 2020 will be postponed to 20 – 30 April 2021.

BorgWarner Inc. and Delphi Technologies PLC have entered into a definitive transaction agreement under which BorgWarner will acquire Delphi Technologies in an all-stock transaction that values the enterprise at approximately USD 3.3 billion. The acquisition would strengthen BorgWarner’s power electronics products, capabilities and scale, creating a leader in electrified propulsion systems.

South Korea’s Lotte Chemical Corp. suspended operation of seven plants following an explosion at its naphtha cracking facility in Seosan on Wednesday (4 March 2020). An official from the company said it halted operation of six facilities producing benzene-toluene-xylene (BTX), butadiene (BD), ethylene glycol (EG) 1, polyethylene (PE) 1, polypropylene (PP) 1 and 2 that were affected by the fire at the Daesan naphtha cracking center in Seosan, some 120 km south of Seoul, in South Chungcheong Province.

Indonesia’s top oil company is looking to relocate a USD 13.9 billion project over 2,000 km away due to prolonged land acquisition problems at the original site. State-owned oil company Pertamina is conducting a study into moving its oil refinery and petrochemical plant project from Bontang city in East Kalimantan to Kuala Tanjung in North Sumatra.

LyondellBasell said it has signed definitive agreements with Liaoning Bora Enterprise Group to form a joint venture that will operate an ethylene cracker and associated polyolefin derivatives complex in Panjin, China. The 50-50 joint venture, Bora LyondellBasell Petrochemical Co., will operate the 1.1 million t/y ethylene cracker, with a total cost of around USD 2.6 billion.

The Board of Hexpol AB and CEO and President Mikael Fryklund have decided to part ways. The company said several circumstances have led to this change and that the development of the group, mainly regarding sales growth and growth of results, lately didn’t met the expectations. The recruitment of a successor has started immediately after the announcement on 14 February. In the meantime CFO Peter Rosén will be interim CEO of Hexpol AB with daily support of Georg Brunstam, who will act as working Chairman of the Board.
