Nova-Institute, a private and independent research institute, and the consulting group COWI announced that they have conducted the first survey on renewable carbon in the chemical industry. They estimate that 20 – 25 % of the carbon supply is already renewable.

The Argentine footwear brand Maincal is partnering with BASF to launch the first safety shoe in South America made with Infinergy expanded thermoplastic polyurethane (E-TPU). Voran SportSafe, the new safety shoe series by Maincal, is said to enable safety footwear users to move and work in comfort with all day compression technology. According to BASF, the E-TPU enhances the safety shoe with superior responsiveness, comfort and durability.

Hamburg-based Albis Plastic has successfully completed its strategy and growth program announced in 2019. The company said that it begins a new chapter in the 100-year history of the Otto Krahn Group: The distribution and compounding business are now operating as two separate companies as part of the new Otto Krahn Group Holding.

Thanks to studies carried out in the R+D centre of Offanengo (CR), the Italian company Coim is successfully moving to the manufacture and distribution of the new Laripur RS TPUS which contain raw materials from bioderived, renewable sources. The grades have been developed ensuring the same performance, as seen with standard products, without having to change or modify the processing or equipment in the manufacturing environment, whilst maintaining recyclability and the same possibility of adding various types of masterbatch (colour, expanding agents, antistatic agents, 2D additives etc.).

Dr. Markus Steilemann, CEO of Covestro, has been awarded the Georg Menges Prize 2020. With this award, which is presented every two years, the Plastics and Rubber section of Germany’s Mechanical Engineering Industry Association (VDMA), together with PlasticsEurope Deutschland e. V. and the Sponsors' Association of the Institute for Plastics Processing in Industry and Craft at RWTH Aachen University (IKV), acknowledge the achievement of individual persons or groups who have made a particularly valuable contribution to the transfer of research results to industrial practice in the field of plastics technology.

Zahoransky has received a large order for systems for the processing of vaccine containers. A US company has placed a major order with a value of EUR 25 million for eleven automation lines and six removal units for vaccine containers (vials). Zahoransky supplies the manufacturer of coated COP (cyclo olefin polymer) vaccine containers with the first automation lines required for production; others will gradually be delivered afterwards.

Now the company has introduced PrimePart ST, a new PEBA material. In addition the company is now also offering a shot peening service.

Nouryon has selected Green Bay in Wisconsin as the location for a new facility to produce its Expancel expandable microspheres. Expancel is used as a lightweight filler and blowing agent to make end products lighter and obtain different surface effects. They also reduce costs and environmental impacts by requiring less raw material. Key end-use markets include the automotive, construction, packaging and mining industries.
