The company said that it begins a new chapter in the 100-year history of the Otto Krahn Group: The distribution and compounding business are now operating as two separate companies as part of the new Otto Krahn Group Holding.

LyondellBasell has released its annual Sustainability Report with the aim of affecting positive change and is focused on three transformational areas including plastic waste, climate change, and thriving societies. The company announced one of the most ambitious goals of the industry to produce and market 2 million t of recycled and renewable-based polymers annually by 2030. The report showcases LyondellBasell's strategy and ambitions for the next decade.

Eleven leading companies from six countries have founded the Renewable Carbon Initiative (RCI) under the leadership of nova-Institute (Germany).The initiative was officially launched in a virtual press conference on 23 September 2020. The aim of the initiative is to support and speed up the transition from fossil carbon to renewable carbon for all organic chemicals and materials. More than 100 well-known experts personally support the initiative. Companies, start-ups and institutes are welcome to join the initiative as a member.

OECD countries have agreed to update rules on the export of hazardous plastic waste for recycling in line with international changes so that advance consent from destination countries will be required ahead of shipping. However, they did not reach consensus on updated arrangements for the export of non-hazardous plastic waste. OECD countries have agreed to review the situation for non-hazardous plastic waste in 2024.
