Merquinsa and DuPont collaborate on renewably-sourced TPU

Merquinsa announced at NPE 2009 the launch of a new family of Pearlthane ECO TPU grades made with DuPont Cerenol renewably-sourced polyol in a strategic collaboration between the two companies.

It will complement Merquinsa's existing Pearlthane ECO polyester and polyether ranges based on renewable sources designed for a wide range of footwear, sport and leisure, electronics and automotive applications among others.

Pearlthane ECO is a recyclable- and renewable-sourced speciality TPU range that recently received the Frost & Sullivan 2008 Global TPU Product Innovation Green Excellence of the Year Award. The Cerenol polyols are ideal soft segments for TPU. They offer high performance with the added benefit of being environmentally responsible using ingredients made with renewable resources instead of petrochemicals.

"We are very excited about this strategic collaboration with DuPont as one of the world leaders in renewable raw materials solutions. Pearlthane ECO made with DuPont Cerenol shows outstanding properties comparable to petrochemically-based TPUs", said Merquinsa spokesman. "DuPont is pleased to work with Merquinsa to make high-performance TPUs made with Cerenol available to the market. Merquinsa is a highly innovative polyurethane producer with a proven track record for introducing sustainable offerings," said Ray W. Miller, Cerenol Global Business Manager. "In addition, we are delighted with the pace of development Merquinsa has shown with this exciting new product line."
